Dr Ziyaie graduated from Dundee in 1993, and obtained her postgraduate doctorate in Surgical Molecular Oncology from the University of Dundee in 2004. She was appointed as a consultant colorectal surgeon at Ninewells Hospital Dundee in 2006. Her main areas of clinical interest are colorectal cancer and pelvic floor dysfunction. She is a trained laparoscopic and robotic surgeon where 90% of the surgical resections as well as surgery for organ prolapse are delivered through minimal access.
Teaching and training have been at the heart of her non-direct clinical work. These activities have spanned from appointments as the Undergraduate Medicine Lead for Surgery to active member of organising faculty as well as course director for number of advanced colorectal courses at the Cuschieri Surgical Skills Centre in Dundee. Over the years she has hosted a number of clinical immersion courses in Dundee, as well as participating in training surgeons as invited trainer elsewhere in Scotland and UK. She is a member of the faculty of “Train the Trainers” and “Surgical Specialty Board in General Surgery” at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. She is an examiner for the UK Intercollegiate Board in General Surgery. She has recently demitted office as the Scottish representative for The Pelvic Floor Society (TPFS-UK) and continues to represent Scotland on the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain & Ireland (ACPGI) as a member of council. She oversees a fellowship programme in Pelvic Floor Surgery in Dundee which has seen completion of training for senior trainees from UK, Europe and Far East.
